Samuel Latour – Sculptor, turner & art bronzer

Occitanie – 1990

Samuel Latour is a sculptor. He has completed a DMA at the Ecole Boulle, learning art turning with wood and then bronze. With his passion for materials and forms, he has perfected his design skills at Hervé Van der Straeten, with Pierre Salagnac as his workshop master, and in an art foundry.

He then has settled in Berlin to work with the designer Stefan LEO. They have developed together a study about the production of furniture and lighting in brass, copper, and steel. Samuel Latour subsequently set up his own studio in Toulouse in 2016 (with his art bronzer partner), where he creates works using a variety of mediums (wood, bronze, steel, plaster), and techniques such as chasing, turning, and moulding. As a committed craftsman, he sources his materials from the region and prefers fruit woods.

Research and innovation

Samuel Latour finds inspiration through his travels. The materials he uses are also a source of inspiration to create shapes. He sculpts each piece by hand, leaving tool marks as an aesthetic element.  They are all unique and precious as a piece of jewellery.

Transmission

Samuel Latour was the head of the wood workshop at the Beaux-Arts of Toulouse between 2018 and 2023. To focus his teaching on the mastery of techniques, he has decided to coach trainees and apprentices in his own workshop. Each year, he takes part in JEMA (The European Artistic Crafts Days) events to encourage the public to discover his skills.

Samuel Latour approached the Fondation Rémy Cointreau in 2023 to improve and optimise his workshop. He wished to create an independent and ergonomic workspace thanks to the acquisition of three machines.
