Alix Dumas – Jeweller

Bretagne – 1986

Alix Dumas is a jeweller. Influenced by a family passion for art and creation, she was inspired by the world of jewellery she joined later in 2010.

After graduating from AFDAP (Association pour la formation et le développement des Arts Plastiques), she continued her jewellery apprenticeship with Laurent Bouissière. During these five years, he became a true master who taught her every stage of jewellery creation. She has learnt all the techniques of creation and has completed commissions for luxury brands.

In June 2020, she founded MAD – Maison Alix Dumas. Based in Bretagne, she makes her creations by hand, from drawing to completion, for private customers in France and abroad. She has taken part in several trade fairs, notably in Las Vegas and London.

2022 –   Milano Jewelry Week, Creativity and Design Award ; Artistar – Sculpture to wear 2022 Gallery Award ; Concours Régional d’Ateliers d’Art ; Laureate of the Banque Populaire Foundation.

2021 –   Prix de l’Alchimiste de l’Audace Créative, on the occasion of Timeless jewells (11/2021) ; Winner of the Rotary Club International District 1660 “Hand and Creation” award ; Jewellery Talent of Today, awarded by Galerie Second Petale and Christie’s Jewels Paris.

Research and innovation

Alix Dumas sees herself as a sculptor who brings volume in space. Each of her pieces is created in a colourful and poetic style, with structured or wavy forms. Careful attention is paid to the choice of materials. She works with Fairmined-labeled gold, recycled silver, and favours renewable or recycled materials. Her jewel cases are handmade in France, with French leathers. Gems, precious stones and semi-precious stones are natural and produced in short supply. She favours the use of antique diamonds, the other ones being natural, contemporary cuts, respecting the Kimberly process.

Transmission

Alix Dumas creates her pieces using traditional jewellery-making techniques. She hopes to perpetuate them by hiring an apprentice to pass on her know-how. To promote her work, she takes part in numerous trade fairs in Geneva, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom.

In 2023, Fondation Rémy Cointreau has supported Alix Dumas in the development of her workshop. This support focused on the acquisition of tools essential to the practice of her trade.
