Stéphanie Lacoste – Weaver

Île-de-France – 1980

Stéphanie Lacoste is a textile designer. Passionate about surfaces and materials, she studied at Duperré in DMA Textile, BTS Fashion Design and DSAA Fashion and Environment programs. Throughout her university career, she has developed a plastic style based on emotions and sensations, often created by the effects of light and shadow.

In 2009, she set up her own workshop, Curiosité Textile. Since then, she has created pieces for architects, interior designers and stylists such as Olivier Rousteing and Jean-Paul Gaultier. Her samples are selected and reworked to become haute couture garments or bespoke decorative objects (partitions, lighting, blinds, etc.).

2021 : Lauréate of Fondation Banque Populaire.

Research and innovation

Stéphanie Lacoste creates silhouettes starting with materials. Her samples are inspired by a place or an atmosphere, sometimes even by a texture already seen. She weaves with plant and animal fibers (silk, wool, linen, hemp, etc.) to which she adds rye straw, wood, stone leaves or even metal. Between innovation and tradition, her weaving becomes a reflective, flexible material.

The craftswoman attaches great importance to the origin and composition of her materials. For this reason, she dyes her own fibers with natural pigments, and sources straw from a farmer, wood from a marker and stone leaf from a specialized factory.

Transmission

Stéphanie Lacoste is very committed to passing on her know-how and has taken part in numerous Craft Fairs since the launch of her workshop (Révélations, Les Rendez-vous de la Matière, The Salony, etc.). Every year, she welcomes trainees and teaches at the Atelier de Tissage at the Lycée La Source in Nogent-sur-Marne (94), which she founded.

Fondation Rémy Cointreau has supported Stéphanie Lacoste in 2023 so that she could equip herself to pass on her know-how. It has helped her acquire warping equipment, a storage table and a 16-shaft loom.
