Alexandra Latour – Embroiderer

Alexandra Latour is an embroiderer. She has studied at the Ecole Boulle in the tapestry workshop. Following her training, she has begun working as an assistant designer, then as a freelance in the haute couture and ready-to-wear sectors for Dior, Valentino, Lanvin, Schiaparelli and Yves Saint Laurent.

In 2020, she founded Atelier Latour. Her works defend embroidery know-how and its ethical and environmental commitments. Designers, artists and interior decorators call on her to make pieces by hand or using the Cornely technique (dating back to the 1860s).

Research and innovation

Alexandra Latour launched La Veste en Jean brand in 2020 with two former collaborators. This ethical and solidarity brand is specialized in the creation of unique or numbered pieces. They are all made of old 100%-cotton jeans and are embroidered with the Cornely machine. Its aim is to turn denim into a luxury product.

Transmission

Alexandra Latour is committed to pass on her knowledge. Her team is composed of several people whom she has trained herself. Keen to perpetuate her know-how, she actively participates in events such as JEMA, and exhibits her pieces in prestigious venues such as the Berlin Museum of Decorative Arts in April 2023. Moreover, having noted the absence of the Cornely machine at the Ecole Boulle, she has set up a partnership with them to welcome and train their students to this technique.

Fondation Rémy Cointreau has helped Alexandra Latour in 2023 to purchase a Cornely machine. This will enable her to take on more students and train them to the technique.
